Welcome back, young typists! This free printable worksheet covers Level 1, Stage 2 of Dance Mat Typing, where you meet two brand-new letters: e and i. With a quick warm-up on the home row, it is perfect for children who finished Stage 1 and are ready to reach beyond the resting keys without peeking at the keyboard.
What you’ll practise
In Stage 2 your fingers stay anchored on the home row and learn to stretch upward to two new keys, building directly on the f, j and g, h work from Stage 1.
- The e key is typed with the middle finger of your left hand — the very same finger that rests on d. Reach up from d to e, then drop straight back down.
- The i key is typed with the middle finger of your right hand — the same finger that rests on k. Reach up from k to i and return.
- Technique cue: only the reaching finger moves; the others stay home so your hands never drift, ready to spring back to f and j.
- Mastering e and i here prepares you for the next top-row reaches, like r and u in Stage 3.
Type each line, then repeat it
Sit with your fingers on the home row and type every line below using the correct fingers. Repeat any line that feels tricky.
- fdsa fgf fdsa fgf fdsa fgf
- jkl; jhj jkl; jhj jkl; jhj
- fded fded fded fded
- fgf ded fgf ded fgf ded
- shake a flake shake a flake
- jhj kik jhj kik jhj kik

How to use this printable worksheet
Here is how to get the most from this printed sheet at home or in the classroom:
- Print the worksheet and sit up tall, feet flat on the floor and wrists relaxed in front of the keyboard.
- Place fingers on the home row first and run the warm-up lines so the hands remember where home is.
- Type each line aloud key by key, using the left middle finger for every e and the right middle finger for every i — and repeat each line until it flows.
- Check your fingers, not the screen: glance down only to confirm the correct finger is reaching, then look back up.
- Move on when comfortable — once e and i feel natural, you are ready for Stage 3.
