Level 3 Stage 7 Typing Worksheet – V and M

Welcome to Stage 7 of Dance Mat Typing, the first stage of Level 3! This free printable worksheet introduces two new letters, v and m. It is designed for children who already know the home row plus the keys from Levels 1 and 2, and who are ready to keep their fingers moving without peeking at the keyboard. Print it out and practise at your own pace.

What you’ll practise

Stage 7 adds the v and m keys, which both sit on the bottom row and are reached with your index (pointing) fingers. These are short, downward stretches from the home row, so the trick is to drop the finger and bring it straight back to its home key.

• v is typed with your left index finger, the same finger that controls f, g, r and t.
• m is typed with your right index finger, the same finger that controls j, h, u and y.
• Technique cue: keep your wrists steady and your other fingers resting on the home row while only the index finger reaches down.
• This stage builds on the q and p work from Stage 6 and prepares you for b and n in Stage 8, which use these very same index fingers.

Sit with your fingers on the home row and type every line below using the correct fingers. Repeat any line that feels tricky.

How to use this printable worksheet

Here is how to get the most from the printed sheet:

• Print the worksheet and sit up straight with both feet flat on the floor and your fingers resting on the home row.
• Type each line aloud or quietly, working through the v drills (such as have, live, gave) and then the m drills (such as me, my, mum).
• Repeat every line two or three times, checking that the correct index finger reaches each new key and returns home.
• Try the mixed sentences, like we may have to move almost five miles, to join v and m with letters you already know.
• Move on to Stage 8 only when your fingers find v and m comfortably without looking down.
